STORY ABOUT SLOVENJ GRADEC

It`s not about the real rising of the town but it stirs people`s imagination. Once upon a time, when poeople lived together in concord and harmony there was one big lake between Plešivec and the hill-side of western Pohorje. On one side of the wide water there was a castle and in the castle “Grad” lived a count who had a very beautiful daughter. On the other side of the bank in a manor-house on Gradišče lived a count and his young and handsome son. By boat they often payed visits to each other, the youngsters often in secret. One day when the contess was travelling again by boat across the water to embrance her sweet-heart, suddenly in the middle of the lake a strong north-east wind caught her, which raised high waves and turned over her boat. The young daughter drowned. The count wanted to find his daughter’s dead body at any price. They were searching for her day and night continuously for 14 days, however without success. At one point between Rahtel and the hill-side of Kremžarica he ordered to dig through the hill and the water flew away. On the bottom of the dry lake in the middle of the arising valley he found in the mud the body of the young girl. In endless grief he ordered to build a church on the place where she drowned. Later, the town Slovenj Gradec arose around the church.

Učenici 6. razreda okušali se u crtanju stripa

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

6th grade pupils tried to make a comic

As a part of a project named „Let′s revive legends, let′s explore Europe“, in which pupils of our school are participating, the six graders, under the guidance of their Croatian language and literature teacher Božica Filipović Veg, have decided to „revive“ famous legend of Ružica-town by the book of Croatian writer Dubravko Horvatić. After dividing into groups and studying all three versions of this famous legend, each group has decided which of the versions they find the most interesting and then they selected few events of a plot. Based on these events, the pupils have then started to design their own comic in few squares. First we have decided which drawing techniques are we going to work with, and then we repeated the basic characteristics of a comic as a literary-artistic type. Sketching was pretty easy, although we are not really talented in drawing, but good will is what counts the most! After 2 school hours we got the comic-legend in four different versions, each of them unique and unrepeatable. Although we are big fans of comics and read them rather than the other literary genres, making their own comic was not easy for the pupils so it took lots of encouragement and effort to show you our modest work. We hope to be soon (after a visit of a famous comic-maker to our school) a lot “smarter” and more successful in making our next class comic based on well known folk tales and legends written by Croatian writer August Šenoa.
